THE RESTORED LAND
Events of these past weeks have shown beyond any further reason for doubt, if anyone still has any, that the “2 State Solution” cannot bring peace between Israel and the Palestinians. It is based on an immense quagmire of misinformation, misrepresentation, ignorance and outright lies; and has only one partner that desires peace. During Israel's Holy week of Pesach/Passover, the other “partner”, Abu Mazen, has demonstrated clearly that he will do anything to prevent the "peace talks" from bringing peace; he goes directly into the international arena to apply for membership in 15 international organizations, before he has any “nation” to take into that arena, and he joins forces with the terrorist organizations; with Hamas that governs Gaza and makes it a launching pad for missiles into civilian populations in Israel, and with Islamist Jihad, a terrorist proxy of Iran. He does this, of course, in a way that will give him the opportunity to accuse Israel of responsibility for their failure.
Israel withdraws from the "peace talks" process.
The irony of all of this has been wonderfully pointed out by Caroline Glick in her Friday, April 25, 2014 comment entitled, Time for Consequences, as she describes the implications of Abbas’s moves:
“And this week, he signed a unity deal with two genocidal terror groups all of whose leaders are war criminals. Every leader of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the two parties that signed the deal with the PLO, are war criminals. Under the Geneva Conventions, which Abbas signed onto just a couple of weeks ago, he is required to put them on trial, for their war crimes.
Here it is worth noting that under the Geneva Conventions, every single rocket launch from Gaza into Israeli territory is a separate war crime.
Abbas was only able to sign the Geneva Conventions on the one hand, and the unity deal with terrorist war criminals on the other, because he is utterly convinced that neither the US nor the European Union will hold him accountable for his actions. He is completely certain that neither the Americans nor the Europeans are serious about their professed commitments to upholding international law.”
(It may be time for John Kerry and Catherine Ashton to re-read THE RISE AND FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE since both the USA and EU seem determined that their time on the World Stage has passed. I don’t even hear any “Sound and Fury”, only a “whimper”. Check your local libraries; I’m sure someone will lend you a copy.)
The murals along Bethlehem streets, in the photograph below, represent the "peaceful" mindset of Israel's "negotiating partner"; who, of course argues that this mindset is the result of the "Israeli occupation". If that is so, why was this mindset of violence against the Jewish "occupier" already expressed before the state of Israel even existed? Or later, why did Arafat's 1964 PLO charter call for the destruction of Israel, well before the '67 war after which Judea and Samaria were seen to be "occupied" by most of the world?
Thank God Israel chose to withdraw from these farcical “talks”.
This present time could be another opportunity for Israel to step up to the plate; an opportunity offered to them now by Mr. Abbas.
The first such opportunity was thrust into their laps 47 years ago this June. After the miraculous victory with which the 1967 Six-Day-War ended, they had an excellent opportunity to extend Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, which they freed from Jordanian occupation. This option I’m sure was debated by much better minds than mine at the time, and not chosen; and it would, of course, not have been a move that the world community would have applauded; but I still believe that it could have saved many lives from death at the hands of terrorists between then and now.
Today, with Abbas joining his PA/PLO, with its somewhat hidden terrorist agenda, to the outspoken terrorist organizations of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, whose objective to annihilate Israel is explicitly stated in their charters, there should no longer be any doubt that there is no negotiating partner for Israel. Israel cannot negotiate peace with an organization whose founding charter calls for their destruction.
A yudenrein territory is the stated objective.
Have we not seen enough evidence in WWI and WWII that the results produced by attempting to “negotiate”/appease did not lead to peace?
Has Abbas placed Israel in a position where extending Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria has become their only way forward? Has he forced Israel into doing what should have been done long ago?
I will conclude with 2 recommendations: 1) Find and read Caroline Glick’s 2014 book, THE ISRAELI SOLUTION: A ONE-STATE PLAN FOR PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST. It’s a $30.00 book and well worth the price.
2) Please take the time to log into http://www.camera.org/index.asp?x_context=3&x_outlet=13&x_article=2226 and click on "segment" to hear the Bob Simon piece. We need to be aware of the misrepresentation that can be perpetrated by as well know an entity as “60 Minutes”. Please do take time to see both the “60 Minute” segment and the Christy Anastas, a young Christian Palestinian, piece that clarifies and directly contradicts the message that Bob Simon seemed almost obsessed to establish. Here is Christy Anastas after Bob Simon misused her words when he interviewed her in the piece you just heard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzCAqXrBGtU .
Something to think about on this 2014 Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Memorial Day.
Since the information in these Camera pieces is rather distressing, let me close with a word from the Prophet Amos in which he records a much more uplifting view in the declaration of the LORD:
“I will bring back my exiled people Israel; they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them.
They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them.” (9:14 – 15).
